Wins Hospital Design Competition
Fondren Pet Care Center of 4145 burns Road in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., has won an international award for excellence in veterinary hospital design. The small animal hospital received a 1998 Hospital Design Competition Merit Award, sponsored by Veterinary Economics, an international business magazine for veterinarians.
Judges praised the hospital’s creative workflow and effective uses of space in a leasehold facility. Dr. Mary c. Fondren operates the small animal hospital in Palm Beach Gardens Business Park.
During the 33 rd annual competition, judges chose 11 winners who will join a select list of hospitals that have earned the distinction since 1965.

An independent panel of judges spent two days reviewing 41 entries.
Sheridan Animal Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y., won top honors as the 1998 Hospital of the Year. The 1998 Veterinary Economics Hospital Design Competition Merit Award winners are located in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; Bedford, Texas; Centerville, Va.; Sheridan, Wyo.; Mission Viejo, Calif.; Independence, Mo.; Cape Coral, Fla.; Sandy Spring, Md.; Crete, Ill.; and Huntington, N.Y.
“The Hospital Design Competition spotlights those doctors providing the next level of patient care and client convenience,” says Wendy s. Myers, editor of Veterinary Economics. “These doctors represent the future of veterinary medicine.”
Each of the winning hospitals will be profiled in Veterinary Economics and receive a plaque. Fondren Pet Care Center will be featured in the July issue. Veterinary Economics reaches 49.000 practicing veterinarians in the United States and Canada.
